If you’re looking for some chicken house plans to build a chicken coop, and you want to save yourself some time, money and frustration, then I’m glad you came across this site and I strongly suggest that you read on…Because this is my complete story on how I was able to build my own chicken coop from a set of chicken house plans…I cover everything, my successes and my frustrations, nothing is left out.

Now I’m just a regular guy who lives in Wellman Iowa, I have a lovely wife and 2 sons and for as long as I can remember I’ve had an interest in farming. The only thing was I never got around to it much since I had always been too busy.
As soon as I was able to, one of the first things I wanted to do was to build a chicken coop, the reason being that in these economic times, buying one would cost several hundred even thousands of dollars and be way out of my budget!
So What Did I Do?
I decided I’d build one using some chicken house plans, now as much as I love do-it-yourself type projects, I’m not a carpenter and I knew I had quite the challenge ahead of me.
My first try and putting one together failed horribly. I had planned it for weeks, I bought all the material, the wood the chicken wire, everything. I worked on it for 3 days straight, Friday through Sunday but in the end all I had was an unstable wooden box, unfit for any chicken.
I really wanted to enjoy freshly laid eggs for my morning meals and create a chicken house that would safely and comfortably house my chickens so that they may lay as many eggs as possible but it just wasn’t turning out that way.
I was considering at this point just going ahead and buying a coop when in my searches on the Internet I found a “How To Build A Chicken Coop” book on the web. This book mentioned it’s instructions were easy to understand, without any techno babble in it and it would work for even a beginner like myself, so I figured the price was low enough and picked it up…
I couldn’t believe how detailed the book was!

The chicken house plans were shown in a very clear and simple way that was easy for me to figure out and it was enough to give me the confidence to try building one again. The second time around, I was a pleasure, I did not get stuck not knowing what to do, it was so clear there was no second guessing. In the end I had a beautifully made chicken coop that I’m proud to say I built with my own 2 hands!
As much as I liked the book, there were some issues though…
CONS:
- One thing I don’t like is following the chicken house plans on the computer screen. This is an e-book not a hard copy book, so in order to get a physical copy, you need to hook up a printer and print it out. I suppose it wouldn’t be much of a problem if you had a printer though which at the time I didn’t.
PROS:
- The book is very easy to follow, it has no techno “mumbo jumbo” in it like other books do
- It’s perfect for a beginner who should be able to follow it without any problems
- There are some cost-saving tips inside of here too which show you how you can build a chicken coop with common materials if you need to keep your costs down.
Final Thoughts:
I have seen a lot of different books on how to build a chicken coop before I had my first go at it. Building a chicken coop was significantly easier when I followed the chicken house plans from “How To Build A Chicken Coop” and for the price, you really can’t beat it..I was even able to save some money in the gathering of my supplies due to it.
